Accountant

Port Credit, ON

This is an intermediate position, ideally with 4-5 years experience.

Reporting to the senior accountant, the General Accountant is responsible for overseeing POM’s General Accounting, Finance Reporting, Payment approvals as well as regular Period/Quarter/Annual financial reports. They are measured on the accuracy, timeliness, error level, analytics, controls and strong internal customer service with end users.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform Period-end/Quarter- end/year-end procedures
  • Bank/credit card/cash/account reconciliation & analyze financial information
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial and management reports, as well as margin reports
  • Maintain & Update Fixed Asset Ledger for all stores, book monthly depreciation
  • Statistics Canada monthly/quarterly surveys
  • Prepare weekly sales report for distribution (Sales Trend analysis)
  • Review and recommend modifications to the current accounting procedures
  • Develop & document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure accuracy to financial transactions by entering account information
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
  • Assist with Auditor requests for year end

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in excel
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an Accounting role
  • Degree in Accounting (or equivalent) preferred, as well as professional designation (preferred).
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner.
  • Good understanding of ASPE/IFRS.
  • Work well independently with little or no supervision

Planet organic is seeking an Accounts Payable Associate with 1-2 years experience in reconciliation and three way matching. Reporting to the Accounts Payable Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for Accounts Payable processing including verifying and reconciling a variety of transactions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily matching and posting large volume of purchase transactions to vendor invoices in computer software.
  • Resolve and communicate any discrepancies or outstanding balances on vendor accounts, including telephone, mail or email correspondence.
  • Reconciles monthly statements and manage AP files
  • Implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies, including accounts payable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in Accounts Payable
  • Accounting background is considered an asset
  • Must be familiar working in a high volume and inventory-intensive environment.
  • A thorough understanding of a three-way matching system (purchase order, receiving and packing list) is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in excel and creating Pivot tables and V look up.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner.
