Think of the last apple you ate. Can you remember where it was grown? In today's global economy, it's more likely that your crisp, delicious apple was grown on a farm in South Africa or New Zealand than at a nearby orchard. With convenient access to fruits and vegetables from exotic locales; it's easy to forget that great-tasting organics are readily available from growers in our community.
By choosing local, you're preserving regional agriculture and supporting pesticide-free growing. Plus, you're helping to reduce carbon emissions by choosing food that doesn't require long-distance shipping or excess packaging; something that benefits the world as a whole.
Reduce Your Footprint: Take Smaller Steps.
Ever mindful of reducing our ecological footprint, Planet Organic Market has an ongoing commitment to sourcing biodegradable, recycled or reusable materials whenever possible. These include purchasing recycled grocery carts, biodegradable shopping bags and encouraging customers to use cloth shopping bags. Further to this, all flyers, promotional materials and the monthly newsletter are printed on New Leaf 'Good News' paper, made from 100% recycled, 40% post-consumer waste and processed chlorine-free.
Be Good, For Goodness Sake
Planet Organic Market also understands the importance of supporting a variety of local and national charitable organizations that impact different areas of need in the community and environment. Through a national partnership with the Sierra Club of Canada, Planet Organic supports their commitment to protecting biodiversity and raising awareness of specific issues related to Health & Environment and environmental stewardship. Each Planet Organic store sponsors three foster parent families in Africa through the support of customer and employee donations.
