As everyone prepares for the new President of the United States many people may feel the need to stock-pile on food, water, and emergency kits. The common misconception is that you need to stock up on foods loaded with preservatives and chemicals. Here is a list for those who want to be keen about their health even during an apocalypse:
Quinoa has a high calorie and fat content while also packing large daily percentages of fiber, iron, and protein. The best part of quinoa is it has up to a 3 year shelf life!
2. Dried beans, peas or lentils
There are a massive amount of different types of beans, peas and lentils out there. Whether you like red, black or yellow. Garbanzo, pinto, or kidney. Beans, peas and lentils have high protein and fat content while also being filled with minerals and vitamins. Perfect for any apocalyptic scenario. Dried beans have a shelf-life of up to 3 years but has been said to stretch up to 5 years.
3. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a healthy fat power-house with a shelf life of up to two years. When you’re running low on food a few spoonful’s of this will keep your energy up especially when travelling.
This is an obvious one, but don’t think that it’ll be easy to find once the apocalypse hits! Stock up now before the rush.
5. Powdered peanut butter or bulk nuts
This is incredibly light in anyone’s backpack, but also filled with fat and calories in case you’re moving on foot!
6. Coffee Beans
Coffee beans to chew might actually help during crisis. Either a boost of energy if you have to get the crowd moving or to get other things moving…
7. Protein bars or chocolate
Protein bars are specifically designed to be compact, but have a lot of energy, fat and protein. Plus they are tasty and many have a shelf life of up to 5 years. Everyone needs chocolate. Always. Plus dark chocolate is filled with antioxidants, calories, and fat.
8. Jerky (beef or otherwise)
Do not underestimate the importance of a hit of protein that is easy to travel with. The shelf-life on Jerky is normally 3-6 months depending on storage, but the beginning of the apocalypse might be the most important, so keep some handy to throw in a backpack.
9. Protein powders
Especially for vegans this may be essential. Having some vegan protein-powder will become a game-changer when it comes to travelling during tough times. It’s light, easy to consume and has all the necessities for energy and refueling.
10. Supplements – powders/pill form
Powdered or pill form of ginger, cranberry, turmeric, folic acid, or powdered super-greens will all be necessary when it comes to your health. Doctors and medications may be hard to find. Get as many natural anti-inflammatories, digestive-health, and anti-bacterial conscious supplements you can stock-pile!
